At Swurl, we believe your professional growth should never come at the cost of your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. We are committed to transparency and to building a platform you can trust.
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account, set up your profile, or use our features, we may collect the following:
Account information: your name, email address, and password.
Profile information: your industries, skills, skills you are building, how you can help others, professional background, testimonials, growth areas, portfolio links, and albums or media you choose to upload.
Critique Board submissions: creative work, project descriptions, goals, constraints, and any context you provide when posting work for feedback.
Insights submissions: professional questions, career challenges, and contextual information you share when using the paid Insights feature.
Bookmarks and collections: the profiles and resources you save and how you organize them.
Communications: messages you send to other users, experts, or coaches through the Platform, as well as any correspondence you send to our support team.
Payment information: billing details processed through our third-party payment provider (Stripe). Swurl does not store your full credit card number on our servers.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Platform, we automatically collect certain technical and usage information:
Device and browser information: your device type, operating system, browser type, and screen resolution.
Log data: your IP address, access times, pages viewed, and referring URLs.
Usage data: how you interact with the Platform, including features used, time spent, and navigation patterns.
Cookies and similar technologies: we use essential cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. See Section 7 for more details.
1.3 Information From Third Parties
If you sign up or log in using a third-party service (such as Google), we may receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that service, in accordance with your privacy settings on that platform.
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
To operate and improve the Platform: providing your account, displaying your profile, facilitating connections, delivering critique feedback, and matching you with vetted experts.
To provide AI-assisted suggestions: when you use features that include AI-generated guidance, we send relevant context from your submission to our AI provider (currently the Claude API by Anthropic) to generate suggestions. We send only the information necessary to produce the suggestion, and we do not send your name or login credentials to the AI provider.
To process payments: facilitating transactions for paid features such as Insights and expert consultations.
To communicate with you: sending account notifications, responding to support requests, and notifying you of material changes to our Terms or this Privacy Policy.
To ensure safety and security: detecting fraud, enforcing our Terms and Conditions, and protecting the rights and safety of our users.
To conduct research and analytics: understanding how the Platform is used so we can improve it. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify individual users.
Swurl does not sell your personal data. We do not share your information with third-party advertisers. Swurl is and will remain ad-free.
We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
With other users: your profile information and Critique Board posts are visible to other Platform users in accordance with your privacy settings. Insights submissions are shared only with your assigned expert or coach.
With service providers: we work with trusted third-party providers who help us operate the Platform, including hosting (cloud infrastructure), payment processing (Stripe), AI services (Anthropic), and analytics. These providers are contractually obligated to use your data only on our behalf and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
For legal compliance: we may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or if necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Swurl, our users, or the public.
In a business transfer: if Swurl is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Swurl is designed with your privacy in mind, especially if you are navigating a sensitive career situation such as a job search. Your profile and activity on the Platform are not shared with or visible to your employer unless you choose to make them public. We do not integrate with employer HR systems or alert employers about user activity.
That said, Swurl cannot guarantee absolute anonymity on the internet. We encourage you to exercise appropriate discretion when sharing information, particularly if you are exploring opportunities while currently employed.
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Platform’s services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or security purposes.
Critique feedback you have provided to other users may persist on the Platform after your account is deleted, as it forms part of the recipient’s record. This feedback will be attributed to a generic “Former Member” label rather than your name or profile.
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL), secure storage practices, and access controls limiting who within our team can view user data.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Swurl uses only essential cookies necessary to operate the Platform. These include session cookies that keep you logged in and preference cookies that remember your settings.
We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking scripts. We do not participate in cross-site tracking or behavioral advertising networks. This is consistent with our commitment to an ad-free experience.
Swurl uses the Claude API by Anthropic to power AI-assisted suggestions within the Platform. When you use a feature that generates AI suggestions, relevant portions of your submission (such as your question or project context) are sent to Anthropic’s API for processing.
We do not send your name, email address, or account credentials to AI providers. AI-generated content is returned to the Platform and displayed to you; it is not stored by the AI provider for training purposes beyond what is described in their own privacy policy. Where AI tools are used, the Platform will indicate which AI provider is being used so you can make informed decisions about what you share.
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
